2014 ALABAMA ODP STATE TEAM
Zac CrawfordTue, Feb 11, 2014 at 1:04 PM
Dear 97 Girls State Team Players and Alternates,
First of all, congratulations on being selected by the Coaching Staff to continue on with the Alabama ODP. Secondly, I apologize that this communication is coming a day late. For those players that have been invited as alternates, please pay careful attention and read over the explanation of what an Alternate is at the bottom of this communication. If you have another email address that would like to be added to this contact list, please reply and let me know your player’s name and age group.
Please see below for the welcome letter from your coaches. Continue to work hard and come prepared for the next training opportunity. As of right now, the next event scheduled is a State Team training session in Montgomery on SUNDAY March 30 (this is different than what was originally scheduled). Mississippi ODP was unable to bring their 97-99 teams to the AL Sub-Regional Event, so we will schedule another training session and attempt to bring in another team for a match. The schedule is also below. Registration is not yet open, but we will have it open by the beginning of March. Once registration is open, please register in a timely manner. For the rest of the ODP Season (which is through Region Camp this summer), please contact your coaches regarding absences, participation, and anything related to training/the game. For all administrative items, you may contact myself, or our new ODP Administrator Martha Disko at martha@alsoccer.org (especially for registration issues/questions).

JULY 5-9: 00 & 97 GIRLS REGION 3 CAMP
MONTEVALLO UNIVERSITY
First off I would like to thank you for participating in Alabama ODP. I believe this program is a great experience for your daughter. I am looking forward to continuing to develop this team and to bring a competitive team to Region Camp. If you have any other concerns or will not be able to attend any sessions, please contact me directly.
At our last session in Montgomery our topic was interchanging runs/ movement off of the ball. With our low numbers we had to combine with the 98's, which I thought helped bring a competitive environment to our training. I saw improvement in our players, and this will be something we continue to build on each practice. My goal is that they take away something from our session, and spend time working on these topics with their club/ HS teams.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions and I am looking forward to seeing everyone late March.
All the best,
Mike

Class 6A Girls Soccer Playoffs: Fairhope 7, Northview 1
We had some opportunities but we just didn't capitalize on them. I'm proud of my girls, they hustled until the end. I have some great girls, I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world."
Fairhope wasted no time in taking control of the match as Kibler drilled a ball into the back of the net after an assist from Darian Hill at the 37:53 mark of the first half.

"The thing about it is they scored in the first two and a half minutes against us," said Bruner. "When a team does that, it changes the complexion of the game. When you get to the playoffs, you have to play your A game. We didn't start off playing our A game and it took us a little while before we started to do that."
During that time, Emma Walker booted an unassisted kick that bounced off the keeper's hands into the back of the net with 19:14 to go before halftime that made it 2-0. Abbey Volk took a pass from Anne Barre and kicked it into the back of the net to make it 3-0 with 13:32 left and Blayne Newsome had an impressive goal from 20 yards out into the right corner of the net past Northview keeper Jordan Gatlin to put the Pirates ahead 4-0 at the intermission.
The Cougars bounced back with 35:39 left in the second half when Holly Baker drilled a goal into the back of the net to trim Fairhope's lead to 4- 1.
"That goal was a shot in the arm for us," said Bruner.
Fairhope responded almost immediately though as Kibler booted a ball into the net with an assist from Newsome to make it 5-1 Pirates with 34:09 left in the game.
"I had told them after Northview scored their goal that we were going to have to play 100 percent every minute of the second half no matter what happens," said Calhoun.
Fairhope then added two more goals as Hill drilled the ball into the back of the net from the right side to make it 6-1 while eighth grader Elise Terral had a header over the keeper's head from a couple of yards out that went into the net to make it 7-1 Pirates.
"Beth Tuttle, our keeper, did a great job this afternoon," said Calhoun. "She had four or five great saves. I'm very proud of my girls, they have worked very hard this season. Hopefully, we can keep it going when we go to Enterprise on Tuesday."
